Today is World Smile Day. A calendar holiday that's easy to miss, because a smile doesn't need a date. However, it reminds us how important it is in everyday relationships. A smile can be different \u2013 sometimes it's an expression of relief, a moment of respite, sometimes a sign of greater joy, and sometimes it's kindness or a sign that someone appreciates, even just our presence. The most important thing is that the smile is simply genuine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the Uskrzydlamy Foundation, we encounter all these smiles. Some are subtle, barely noticeable, while others are full and radiant. But each one carries something important and can change a day for the better. We see them in everyday moments \u2013 in small gestures, brief exchanges of words, or even just glances. And it's their diversity that makes each one unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
World Smile Day was conceived by Harvey Ball, creator of the famous yellow "smiley." In 1963, he designed it to lift the spirits of insurance company employees\u2014he wanted the simple icon to bring joy and spark smiles in everyday interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the Foundation, we experience this every day. When we distribute food parcels, conduct various activities to support those in our care, help families in need, or organize local initiatives \u2013 in such situations, space for a smile is born. And perhaps because the lives of many of our clients can be so difficult, that smile is especially valuable. It doesn't come easily, but when it does appear, it lingers in the memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Uskrzydlamy Foundation exists to support. But in practice, we are also supported \u2013 by people who can smile in difficult times. They are the ones who give us wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So maybe it's worth giving someone your smile today, on this symbolic day - a simple, everyday one that says "I'm glad you're here.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
