Harsh reality
Makululu is one of the highest concentrations of poverty in Africa. The daily lives of residents of this Zambian district involve a struggle for basic needs—food, shelter, and access to education. Children are particularly vulnerable, as many families are unable to provide them with adequate living conditions. Consequently, some end up on the streets, where they must fend for themselves, without adult support.
A center that gives you a chance
In response to these challenges, "Don Bosco Makululu" center„, run by the Salesians. This place provides children with shelter, education, and psychological support. Currently, 62 children are under their care, although this number is constantly changing. Some children are unable to abandon their previous lifestyle and return to the streets, while others, after a period of rehabilitation, return to their families. In addition to the orphanage, the Salesians in Makululu also run a primary and secondary school. The primary school houses over 900 very poor children, and the secondary school houses over 600. Although tuition is only 8 złoty per year, many families cannot afford even this nominal amount.
Support from the We Inspire Social Development Foundation
The Uskrzydlamy Foundation, wanting to help children, provided financial support to the center through Don Bosco Makululu Foundation. The donation purchased food for children (oil, tobacco, soy, salt, and other food products), which is a staple in Zambia. Furthermore, the funds allowed for the purchase of small fish for the pond and feed for fish and pigs.
Own resources, greater stability
Maintaining the center is a significant financial challenge. Therefore, to be able to independently produce some of the food for its residents, the facility is investing in fish and pig farming. Although running a farm requires significant commitment, it offers hope for greater independence and stability for the center.
Help is still needed
The facility's needs remain enormous. Any assistance contributes to improving the living conditions of children in Makululu and gives them a chance for a better future. Supporting initiatives like these is crucial. Every act of kindness makes a significant difference in combating the problem of street children and poverty in the world's poorest regions.
